From this link here, the little tidbit:
“We learned exclusively here at Bloody-Disgusting that Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment have tapped Eric Heisserer to rewrite The Thing prequel that was originally scripted by Ronald D. Moore (no idea how much of a rewrite). It was announced here yesterday that Heisserer also did some cleanup work on Wesley Strick’s screenplay for A Nightmare on Elm Street. Could he be the next big name in horror? It’s looking that way. Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. is attached to direct the prequel to John Carpenter’s classic film that fallowed scientists in the Antarctic that are confronted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of the people that it kills.”
They were quite fast on the draw, those folks at Bloody. Yes, Matthijs and I are hard at work with the very smart team at Strike on the prequel. We are all so much in love with Carpenter’s film, so protective of it, we’re doing all we can to avoid stepping on its toes. I jumped at this job because I hold the Carpenter adaptation to very high standards, and I knew it would be a challenge to create a comparable companion piece. Sort of a “Nobody better screw this up, especially me” mentality. Lucky for me, the people at Strike and the director have the same standards.
I can’t say any more at this time. I have the highest respect for both Ron Moore and Wesley Strick.

Sweet. I can’t wait to check this stuff out. Remakes generally garner more than their fair share of jeers from ardent fans, but the right mindset can keep an ambitious project on the right track.
Keep us apprised, man!

Best of luck.
If McReady’s (cousin/ brother / sister/ mother-in-law/ whatever relation )is in this one… please think of a justifiable reason to have them there.
It just sounded so unlikely.
And please don’t write with FX limitations in mind.. let the effects guys step up to the plate and create magic.
Best of luck. Really.

Just keep it simple. Make sure to use the information from the Norwegian camp (like the axe in the door, the guy sitting in the chair who had looked to kill himself) and build the story around that with it ending somewhere after the men start chasing the dog in the helicopter. I wish I had the ability to help work on this film because it is something I have dreamed of. Just keep to the source material and construct a simple, to the point film of what happened at the Norwegian camp. And this one should be a bit more gory and violent while the movie should be much shorter. 80-90 min film time would be perfect.

Excellent news, this, can’t really explain how excited I am abou it… or maybe I just did?
I’m interested to know whether you, Eric, and anyone else nvolved in the production had the chance to play the game that was released seveal year back on PS2, Xbox and PC?
I’m a former games journalist and I remember it reviewing extremely well, and many outlets praising its reverence and adherence to the original film. It was pithced very much as a sequel, with players arriving in Carpenter’s remake realm post-movie, discovering what actually happened.
Very scary and I imagine it still stands up today…
Peace,

Craig,
Yes, I remember the game, and thought it was a lot of fun. I liked the trust mechanism. But I would get frustrated with the testing, since you could test your men and have everyone check out fine, then a few moments later one of them turns (because it was necessary for the game’s plot). Other than that, it was a great experience in the world of Carpenter’s movie.
I’m not sure if we’ll get a chance to do a sequel after wrapping up this prequel, but it would be fun to revisit the game regardless.

Do not turn this in to an over the top action movie,it is not worth the cashing in to have some dumb action movie with typical post 2000 typical action hero jr rambo’s running around.
Suspense,not cheap thrills please.
